The University of Nova Gorica (UNG) is a private, research oriented university, founded by two Slovene research institutes (Jožef Stefan Institute and the Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts) and two Slovene municipalities. UNG’s activity includes higher education at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as scientific research and expert activity. UNG started its operations in 1995. Its former name, Nova Gorica Polytechnic, was changed together with its formal status in 2006, when it became the University of Nova Gorica. Today it comprises seven schools and 12 research units.
